a Great Source of Diabetic Support
a Great Source of Diabetic Support
Having worked in health and social care for over 20 years, there are certain websites, professionals and sources of information and advice that you use over and over again. Diabetes UK is one of them.
At Well Heeled we focus upon the diabetic sock product, but we also want to make sure that products we sell are appropriate for their use, such as working in conjunction with the Royal College of Podiatry as well as registered podiatrists to develop our diabetic sock. However, we also know the limitations of our understanding of health and social care topics and that’s why we always try and ensure that anyone wanting to know more about any ailments or concerns they may have can get the appropriate advice. This is one reason we have a disclaimer and links at the bottom of our posts – to make it easier for you to get that help and advice.
Diabetes UK is one of the biggest diabetes funding organisations within the United Kingdom – supporting research into the causes and/or treatments for diabetes and subsequent complications, such as foot problems and more.
Diabetes UK states on their Diabetes UK About Us page “We are Diabetes UK. Our vision is a world where diabetes can do no harm. We’re leading the fight against the UK’s biggest and growing health crisis. And it’s a fight that involves us all – sharing knowledge and taking on diabetes together.” That in itself is an amazing challenge and one that Diabetes UK has been leading for many years. Alongside working with professionals and researchers, they have helped to achieve so much over the decades – including that aforementioned supporting the development of treatments through PhD grants and investment in further diabetes research. Their first research grant was awarded in 1936! They have made it their mission to ‘tackle the diabetes crisis’ and do so with amazing effort, hoping to help towards finally having a cure for diabetes – a mean task in itself.
Diabetes UK has a specific page for support, called the Living with Diabetes page. This includes how to eat well, practical advice and the complications that can come with living with diabetes. We urge you to look at their great site and information if you require support and further information.
More so, they highlight that diabetes is not just a physical condition but an emotional one too – of course linking to mental health. With a background working in mental health, I understand why talking about the link between diabetes and mental health is so important so it’s great to see this as part of the Diabetes UK site.
Check out their ‘Get Involved’ page for much more information on this as there are lots! In essence, you can donate to Diabetes UK or even take part in fundraising events. You can volunteer for them or campaign too. They also have a weekly lottery that you can take part in if that’s the way you choose to support their cause.
From the Well-Heeled point of view, anyway in which such a deserved cause can be helped, no matter how small, should be considered.
More so, it’s important that you check out the links given above for more information on diabetes, whether this is for yourself or someone you know, and help to share such a wonderful cause.
